Steve Stone announced on the Chicago White Sox television broadcast that he has signed a long-term contract extension to remain the team’s television analyst until he decides he wants to retire.
As they came back from a commercial break early in the game, Schriffen, who is finishing his first season as the White Sox television play-by-play voice said, “Speaking of all the emotions of the day, this one brings a lot of joy to a lot of White Sox fans. Excited to announce that my incredible partner Steve Stone will be back on this broadcast, not just next year, but for multiple years to come, signing a new agreement with the White Sox to end his role [as analyst] for whenever [he wants] it to end with the Chicago White Sox.”
Stone, 77, replied, “I mean that was the plan because since I’ve been here, since 2008, it has felt like a family to me and so I wanted to make sure that when my career is over, it ends as a member of the Chicago White Sox family. So, we did sign a long-term deal. I will be here for quite some time and John and I will be together for as long as we both want to, I believe.”
Schriffen then added, “Thank you for everything you have done this season. It was a challenging season on many fronts, but you have been there every single step of the way and I’m excited to go forward with you.”
“Steve is recognized as one of the best in the business, and we are so fortunate to have the White Sox be his home,” said Brooks Boyer, White Sox Chief Revenue and Marketing Officer in a release. “His expertise and presence in the booth add depth and knowledge to every broadcast. Steve is treasured by White Sox fans, and we look forward to many more seasons of the iconic Steve Stone on the White Sox broadcast.”
In the same release, Stone said, “I wanted to sign a long-term contract that would ensure I will spend the rest of my career with the Chicago White Sox. I have spent almost the entirety of my time in baseball in Chicago, first as a player and now as a broadcaster. Throughout all this time, I have viewed the White Sox as my family, and I just want to spend my days with the people who I consider to be members of my family.”
Next year, the White Sox games will air on the Chicago Sports Network (CHSN), which will also be the home for Blackhawks and Bulls games. The first regular-season White Sox telecast on CHSN will be on March 27, 2025.
