Major League Baseball’s all-time hit king Pete Rose has died at the age of 83 at his home in Las Vegas. He was found by a family member and according to ABC News there were no signs of foul play.
The seventeen-time All-Star who won three World Series titles was named the 1963 Rookie of the Year and the 1973 National League MVP. Rose had 4,256 lifetime hits over a 24-year career where he played in 3,562 games with almost 16,000 at-bats. In his career he played for the Cincinnati Reds, the Philadelphia Phillies and the Montreal Expos.
Rose was banned from baseball by then-commissioner Bart Giamatti in 1989 after it was determined Rose had bet on baseball.
Rose dabbled in sports media several times throughout his time after baseball. In 2015, he was hired by FOX Sports and FOX Sports 1 appearing on various shows. Rose was let go in August of 2017.
