The documentary was released theatrically on Friday, September 13th. It has earned more than $12 million at the box office, making it the highest-grossing documentary in the United States in the past six years.

The film has received mostly positive reviews on the popular site Rotten Tomatoes, with a 71% favorability score. However, it was mostly ignored by major film critics, much to the chagrin of Walsh and his team of producers which included Daily Wire co-founders Ben Shapiro and Jeremy Boreing.

“Most mainstream critics have ignored our film,” Matt Walsh said on social media after Am I Racist? opened to a more than $5 million box office weekend, placing it in the top five movies that week. After noting that a YouTuber reviewed the film with high praise, Walsh said “His review has over 300,000 views in less than a day. Maybe that will inspire other major critics to follow his lead.”

The report of the debut date on DailyWire+ was first reported by Deadline.
