Megyn Kelly has turned her SiriusXM radio show into one of the top-producing podcasts in the country. She says she wishes she had left TV sooner in her career.
During The Megyn Kelly Show, the former Fox News and NBC host was asked about the difference between her show now and what she used to do on television. Kelly noted the stark contrasts between the two.
“It’s like night and day,” she said. “It’s it’s so great to be on my own. Just today, I was getting ready for the show, and I was looking out my window. I was looking at the fall colors. I brought my own children to school and I will have dinner with them tonight. I’m at work when they’re at school, which is such a blessing. It was so different at Fox. I left for work just as my kids were getting home from school. I never looked out a window, I only looked at ugly, tan walls. And if I did look out a window, it was just cityscape, corporate buildings, the concrete jungle. I didn’t see a flower, a tree.”
Megyn Kelly continued that — outside of the lifestyle being different — working for herself provides many different changes to her professional life, too.
“I can do things the way I want to do things. In the morning, I can work out. Now, there’s some time when I put the show together, I can be doing it in comfortable settings and wearing comfortable clothing. I’m not constantly squeezing myself into some polyester bright pink dress and getting false eyeliner. My life is better. I can see my family, I can have a more relaxed day.
“And on the content, that’s night and day two, right? It’s just having more meaningful discussions, having the chance to have a show like this, where you can spend the time to really explain what a liar Colin Allred is, and give the examples. I could never have done that at Fox, because there’s just not enough time. There’s only 42 — 38, usually — minutes of content in a show. You can’t devote it to one thing. They would never have allowed that. So, all of it feels like a luxury to me and I only wish I had done it sooner.”
Megyn Kelly worked at Fox News from 2004 to 2017, and at NBC News from 2017 to 2018 before launching her radio show with SiriusXM in 2020.
