WEEI morning host Greg Hill celebrated his 34th anniversary of being on Boston radio today. Hill started on legendary Boston rock station WAAF at 24 years of age in 1990. After 29 years he moved over to WEEI and recently signed a contract extension to remain with the station long term.
This morning, show producer Chris Curtis said, “34 years ago today, our very own Greg Hill debuted on WAAF.”
Hill replied, “34 years? That doesn’t seem possible, Curtis. Oh my gosh…34 years ago. It seems like it was just yesterday.”
Curtis added, “It’s not just the age difference between Bill [Belichick] and his girlfriend. It is how many years Greg Hill has been on the radio.”
“You’ve been doing this longer than I’ve been alive,” you hear another producer say. Hill replies, “That is sad. That is really, it’s awful when you hear about it.”
Courtney Cox added, “Wow, so you debuted that show right before your birthday too?” Then Jermaine ‘Wiggy’ Wiggins said, “I was a freshman in high school in 1990.”
That is when Hill had about enough of that and said, “You were? Can we stop? …Shoot me now. Don’t they put down horses that reach a certain age or something like that? It just flew by, by the way, too. It seems like it was just yesterday. There I was, a young man. 24 years old. My whole entire life ahead of me. Having no idea where I would end up, what I would end up doing, what would happen to me. In an instant, it’s gone.”
Greg Hill was honored with a Marconi Award from the National Association of Broadcasters in 2022 for “Major Market Personality of the Year.” Hill made the transition to WEEI in July 2019.
