During a Fox Corp. earnings call, CEO Lachlan Murdoch confirmed reports the company has sold out its Super Bowl LIX inventory. The game will take place on Sunday Feb. 9, 2025, at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
“We still have a pretty robust football calendar yet to come, culminating in our broadcast of Super Bowl 59, where, sorry to say, we are already sold out, and at record pricing,” Murdoch said to investors.
Fox has reportedly sold the inventory for around $500,000 per spot more than it sold for the game two years ago during its coverage of Super Bowl LVII between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles. Advertisers in that contest included Anheuser-Busch, Heineken, Doritos, Google and M&M’s. The game was watched by a record average of 115.1 million viewers.
Murdoch also gave a very brief update on the Venu Sports streaming product, a joint venture with Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery which has been delayed by court filings from Fubo. Murdoch said, “We are awaiting our appeal of the injunction, and we’ll see where we go from there. We’re very excited to launch it when we have the ability to do so.”
Murdoch also made a joke out of the number of political ads which ran during the last weekend leading up to the election. He said, “I apologize to anyone who was enjoying their football over the weekend and were bombarded by political ads, but sports has really been the beneficiary of national political advertising.”
According to a report from Sportico, Fox is expected to announce that it generated over $185 million in sales during the World Series. That information will most likely be held until their next earnings call.
