President-elect Donald Trump has announced the appointment of FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr as the new chairman for the organization. The NAB is sending its regards.
Carr will replace outgoing Chair Jessica Rosenworcel as the leader of the Federal Communications Commission. The 45-year-old has been a Commissioner since being appointed by Trump during his first term in 2017. He had previously served as the General Counsel for the Commission before being appointed.
“NAB congratulates Commissioner Carr on his selection as the next chairman of the FCC,” NAB President and CEO Curtis LeGeyt said in a statement. “Commissioner Carr has been a steadfast leader in holding Big Tech accountable and supporting policies that will allow local broadcast stations to better compete with these behemoths and thrive.
“We are excited to continue our work with the chairman-designate to level the playing field and remove regulatory barriers that impede investment in local broadcast newsrooms,” LeGeyt continued. “Together we will ensure local television and radio stations can innovate and continue to serve communities across the country.”
Carr was renominated to the FCC by President Joe Biden last year, extending his term until 2028.
