Mark Levin: Radio Companies Will Someday See How Bad the 6-9 PM Timeslot Is When I’m Not Around

The Mark Levin Show airs live on weekdays from 6-9 PM ET. The longtime nationally syndicated host believes it’s a difficult window to find success in.

While discussing the deflating ratings of network television news programs on Monday, Levin noted that the timeslot isn’t ideal for building large audiences, but he has managed to do just that.

“We’re up against everything,” said Levin. “My show, time-wise, I’m up against all the sports, the playoffs, the big games. I’m up against dinner. I’m up against all this, and nobody else is during the course of a show. I know we run other times throughout the country, given your time slots, 3 to 6 PM on the West Coast, but it is the toughest time slot there is for half the country. And here we are pounding the hell out of all our competition.”

A Pew Research study recently showed that network news shows have lost portions of their audience since 2020. News/talk radio, however, has remained steady in that timeframe.

Mark Levin added that one day on the horizon he won’t be around to host a program in the timeslot, which — in his opinion — will lead to a greater appreciation for what he has done in the window.

“One day I won’t be here, then the radio companies will see what happens from 6 to 9 PM. It will plummet. No brag, just fact,” The Mark Levin Show host said. “We’ve had stations ask us back, because they’ve seen what took place. If I decide to retire six months from now, I don’t know how many of you going to turn on your am radio station from 6 to 9 PM on the East Coast. I’m guessing not a ton. Or if I decide to retire and just do a podcast, how many of you will stop listening to radio, at least during this time, and shift over to the podcast? I am guessing a whole lot of you.

“That will be tested one day in the future. Maybe they’re not so distant future in one market or another.”
