SuperTalk 99.7 WTN Moves Matt Murphy to Afternoons, Adds Chad Benson After Retirement of Brian Wilson

"To be offered the opportunity to entertain and inform listeners in the same chair as greats like Phil Valentine and Brian Wilson is an absolute dream come true."

SuperTalk 99.7 WTN host Brian Wilson is set to retire this month. The moves to replace him involve Matt Murphy and Chad Benson at the Nashville station.

Matt Murphy will move from the 12-3 PM daypart to the afternoon drive slot previously occupied by Wilson from 3-7 PM. Murphy has been at the station since 2021 after previously serving as the morning show host and Program Director of Talk 99.5 in Birmingham for 19 years.

“For the past three years, I’ve considered it a great honor to be a part of such an important and influential brand as Super Talk 99.7 WTN,” said Murphy. “To be offered the opportunity to entertain and inform listeners in the same chair as greats like Phil Valentine and Brian Wilson is an absolute dream come true. I look forward to building long-lasting friendships with the afternoon audience for years to come.”

To replace Murphy in the midday timeslot, the station is adding Chad Benson, who will host a live and local show on the Cumulus Media news/talk station. He will continue to host the nationally syndicated Chad Benson Show for Radio America, which airs live from 9 AM-Noon.

“I’m so excited to be a part of this legendary radio station and to work with an incredible team in an amazing city,” Benson said. “I look forward to contributing and building strong connections with both listeners and advertisers.”

Additionally, the station is beefing up its local newsgathering and reporting. It has added former WTOP anchor Joan Jones as morning news anchor alongside Dan Mandis. Meanwhile, current news anchor Ken Weaver will continue to work the news desk from 11 AM-7 PM.

“Adding highly regarded talents Chad Benson and Joan Jones, along with repositioning Matt Murphy and Ken Weaver – while still getting to still hear Brian Wilson – is a huge win,” said Cumulus Media Nashville Operations Manager Paul Mason. “It’s a great time for our listeners, whether they are consuming us on broadcast radio or on one of our many digital platforms.”

“We are thrilled to introduce these exciting changes to our lineup at SuperTalk 99.7 WTN,” added Cumulus Nashville Vice President and Market Manager Allison Warren. “Each addition and shift reflects our unwavering commitment to delivering the highest quality news and talk programming to our listeners.
