Former CNN, ABC News Anchor Aaron Brown Dies

Brown is widely remembered for his work at CNN during the September 11th terrorist attacks in 2001.

Aaron Brown, a longtime news television anchor at outlets like CNN and ABC News, has died at the age of 76.

Brown is widely remembered for his work at CNN during the September 11th terrorist attacks in 2001. For his work on that day, Brown was awarded an Edward R. Murrow Award for his reporting from CNN’s Manhattan rooftop.

He had joined CNN in 2001 after previously serving as the anchor of the late-night news program World News Now, and served as a reporter for ABC World News Tonight with Peter Jennings. Brown served as the anchor of the Saturday edition of the network news program program. He also spent time as the host of Good Morning America Sunday during his time with ABC News.

Brown remained at CNN until 2005, with his show NewsNight being replaced in the daily lineup by Anderson Cooper 360, which remains in the timeslot today. He remained under contract until 2007, when he left the network to host Wide Angle for PBS from 2008 through August 2009.

After his television career concluded, Brown taught a course at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University from 2007 to 2014.

Before joining ABC News, Aaron Brown worked in local television in Seattle at KING-TV and KIRO-TV for 15 years before hitting the national stage.

According to a statement from his family, Aaron Brown died on Sunday at the age of 76.
