One of ESPN’s most beloved personalities has good news to report about a concerning situation. Dick Vitale, one of ESPN’s longtime college basketball voices, reported today that his vocal cords are officially cancer-free, and he’s been approved by all parties to return to the sidelines. Vitale reported the news via his X account:

Vitale’s most recent cancer fight has gone on since June, when he announced he was battling a cancerous lymph node in his neck. Fortunately, Vitale reported in December that he was again cancer-free. Now, Vitale has stayed cancer-free and looks to get back to the sidelines. He posted a full video of his diagnosis to his Facebook:

“The cancer that we treated is completely resolved,” said Dr. Steve Zeitels, Vitale’s laryngeal doctor. “[But] we’re gonna have to restrict some of your activity when you do the games.”

Zeitels says that the surgery he performed on Vitale was the largest-scale operation he’s done using his method of treating vocal cord cancer, and it’d never been done with someone who went through radiation treatment.

Vitale then reveals that his boss at ESPN approved his return to the sidelines, although there isn’t a timetable for when he will return. He then signed off on the video as only Dickie V could.

“I can’t wait [to get back],” Vitale said. “I owe [Zeitels] everything, he’s awesome, baby.”
