Colin Cowherd has revealed that he will be moving to Chicago in the spring, marking a change in scenery for the host of The Herd on FS1 and founder of The Volume. Cowherd, who has been a member of FOX Sports since 2015 hosting his three-hour sports talk program simulcast on FOX Sports Radio, explained on the latest edition of his podcast that he will be splitting his time between both cities during the football season. Yet he estimated that 85% of his time will be spent in the Windy City where he will broadcast his sports programs. Ryan Glasspiegel of Front Office Sports reported earlier in the week that Cowherd was nearing a deal to remain at FS1.
While appearing alongside Nick Wright on his podcast, Cowherd explained that most of his guests that generate ratings on his program do not appear live in the studio. In addition to Wright, he mentioned examples such as Tom Brady, Drew Brees and Matt Hasselbeck who appear on the program remotely. Cowherd also explained that his wife has sacrificed a lot for his career and that she did not like Los Angeles as much. In the past, he has stated that London and Chicago are his two favorite cities in the world. Moreover, he explained that he likes the urban areas that allow him to walk around in different towns, something that he has not had in Los Angeles while living in four different homes in eight years.
“I like where I live, but it lacks that sort of feel for me, and so I love the city,” Cowherd said. “She’s got her sister there, I’ve got a lot of friends there, and I think it’s time to be a better guy and be a better husband.”
Cowherd has lived in various regions throughout his career, some of which include Portland, Las Vegas and Tampa. Having settled in different areas around the country, he feels that it has given him an advantage as a broadcaster to understand what people care about. Cowherd also called Chicago one of the “great guy cities ever,” explaining that there were great sports, bars and beaches in the area. Wright acknowledged that Cowherd is probably breaking the heart of FS1 host Danny Parkins, who moved to New York City from Chicago upon joining the Breakfast Ball morning show, and used it as an excuse to pitch him on visiting more often.
“If you’re in Chicago, you’re going to be in New York more often because you don’t come to New York ever, and now it’s a short enough flight I can guilt you into it,” Wright said. “Our wives, who have spent no time together, can go together. We can go to Broadway.”
Cowherd revealed that he told the network about his move six months ago and pitched the value of having a show in the middle of the country. Furthermore, he explained that his employers have been amazing and offered to build him a studio. The fibers between the Big Ten Network building and FOX facility in Los Angeles are similar, Cowherd explained, helping to facilitate this transition. In order to demonstrate a commitment to his wife in that he would move to the city, he purchased season tickets for the Chicago Bulls and Chicago Blackhawks at United Center, and he will also see other events throughout the locale.
“I’ve bounced all over the country, and there’s some advantages and disadvantages to it, but I’m so excited to live in the Midwest, to live in a great city next to cousins,” Cowherd said. “I’m fired up, and my son wants to go to Northwestern here in a couple years maybe.”
