WRVA morning show host John Reid has departed the Audacy Richmond news/talk station to campaign for Lt. Governor of Virginia.

Reid joined the station in 2017 and hosted The John Reid Show from 5:30-10 AM.

The announcement was not a shock to listeners or station management. In March of last year, Reid had shared he was exploring the possibility of running for the state’s second-highest office.

He made the announcement earlier this week that he was exiting the station to officially launch his campaign.

“I have spent my entire life and career — in public and behind the scenes — serving and advancing conservative values,” Reid said. “I am running to help continue what Governor Youngkin started, and to help elect Winsome Sears and re-elect Jason Miyares and to serve as a voice for all Virginians.”

If elected, John Reid would become the first openly gay statewide candidate in Virginia history.

“I’m the most conservative and proven candidate running, and I’ve boldly stood up for our believes in a way that should make my personal life a total non-issue,” he said in his announcement.

Reid’s father, Jack, served as a state delegate from 1990 through 2007.

Monday was Reid’s final program with WRVA.
