The Seattle Mariners organization will be shuffling its television broadcast booth heading into the 2025 season as the team is said to be planning on continuing presentations on the ROOT Sports network. Dave Sims, the longtime play-by-play announcer for the team, is moving to call New York Yankees games on WFAN, and his longtime partner in Mike Blowers is reportedly not returning as the analyst. Blowers had been serving in the color commentary role since 2007, but the team will now opt to use a rotation of broadcasters in the role instead. Angie Mentink will reportedly be joining the Mariners broadcasts, becoming the first woman in club history to hold a regular role in this capacity.
Mentink became the first woman to work as an analyst on a local Mariners broadcast in August 2021, and she has filled in for Blowers on several occasions over the years. While matriculating at the University of Washington, she was an All-American softball player and previously served as a color commentator on baseball and softball radio broadcasts for the university. Mentink has reported on both the Mariners and Seahawks, along with co-anchoring the Mariners All Access studio program on the regional sports network. Mentink replied to a post on social media from Adam Jude of The Seattle Times, who reported the news, by expressing her gratitude for those who helped her reach this point.
Other analysts who are said to be part of this rotation include Jay Buhner, Dave Valle and Ryan Rowland-Smith. Buhner would be returning to the booth after previously serving as a part-time broadcaster for four years following his retirement in 2001. Furthermore, Valle was a regular analyst for Mariners games for eight seasons and has remained a part-time analyst for the network. Rowland-Smith has provided analysis on pregame and postgame shows on ROOT Sports and filled in for game broadcasts, and he has also worked at the national level in a part-time role with MLB Network.
Aaron Goldsmith, who has been a member of the Mariners broadcast team for the last decade, is reportedly taking over as the lead television play-by-play commentator. Goldsmith previously worked in the minor leagues calling games and continues to broadcast college basketball games for Pac-12 Networks and FOX Sports. ROOT Sports personalities Brad Adam and Jen Mueller are also said to be returning to the Mariners broadcasts for the 2025 campaign.
The radio pairing will reportedly consist of Gary Hill serving in the analyst role alongside play-by-play announcer Rick Rizzs, who would be entering his 35th season behind the microphone for the team. Hill has been a part of Mariners radio broadcasts since 2010 and has been the executive producer and engineer for the last seven seasons. The Mariners flagship radio station is Seattle Sports 710 AM, which has been the home for live game broadcasts for the last 15 years.
