There had been ongoing speculation about whether the wildly popular series Ted Lasso would return for a fourth season on Apple TV+. However, those questions were finally answered on Friday. Actor Jason Sudeikis confirmed on the New Heights Podcast, hosted by Jason and Travis Kelce, that a fourth season is currently in the writing process.

During the conversation, Jason Kelce, unsure of what he could or couldn’t ask, inquired about the possibility of another season.

“Yeah, we’re writing season four now,” said Sudeikis. “That’s the official word.”

Shortly after Sudeikis made the announcement on the podcast, Apple TV+ head of programming Matt Cherniss reaffirmed the actor’s statement.

Ted Lasso has been nothing short of a juggernaut, inspiring a passionate fan base all over the world and delivering endless joy and laughter, all while spreading kindness, compassion, and unwavering belief,” said Cherniss via a statement.

Expanding on the news, Sudeikis shared some insight into the upcoming season’s concept. He revealed that his character, Ted Lasso, will be coaching a women’s soccer team, though he did not provide any additional details.

“It’s exciting. I mean, it’s daunting,” explained Sudeikis when discussing the writing process for the new season. “We told the story we wanted to tell, but there’s more there. It is a neat group of people to work with. It’s a wonderful group of people and characters to write around.”

Adding to the enthusiasm, Cherniss expressed his excitement for what’s to come.

“Everyone at Apple is thrilled to be continuing our collaboration with Jason and the brilliant creative minds behind this show,” said Cherniss.

This announcement comes nearly two years after the conclusion of Season 3. At this time, the full cast has yet to be revealed. It remains uncertain whether beloved Lasso cast members such as Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Phil Dunster, Jeremy Swift, and Nick Mohammed will return to their roles.

Meanwhile, Sudeikis acknowledged that fans have been eager for another season for quite some time.

“The universe kept just like saying things,” said Sudeikis. “Kind folks at airports or on the Internet, or friends of my folks, or other people in the industry. And I was just like ‘okay,’ ‘okay.’ ‘I hear you,’ ‘I hear you.’ ‘We hear you,’ ‘we hear you.’ We’re listening, and then more stories kept unfolding and popping up in our heads. So that’s where we’re just exploring all that now.”
