Elizabeth Murphy Burns is stepping down after 43 years as CEO of Morgan Murphy Media. Brian Burns, who previously served as EVP and COO, will take her place.
The company stated that with Burns as the new leader, it is “ensuring Morgan Murphy Media will be led by a member of the family, as it has been since its founding in 1890.”
Murphy Burns began her run as co-leader of the company with her brother, John Murphy. She stated, “The time is right for me to pass this torch to the next generation. We might be small, but we are mighty, and with the help of all the wonderful people I’ve worked with over the years, I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished.”
“I see so much promise for the future of our company if we remain committed to principles of community service and localism,” Murphy Burns said. “It’s what we do.”
Burns becomes the fifth president of the company’s 135-year history. He began his career at age 12, reporting for the company on election night.
“Liz’s legendary leadership of this company won’t soon be matched,” Brian Burns said. “Her standard of professionalism, innovation, community service, and commitment to the hundreds of people working in our company is something I think about every day.”
Morgan Murphy Media operates 18 radio stations in Wisconsin, Michigan, Washington, and Idaho.
