The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) has laid out its broadcasting policy priorities to members as part of the launch of a new website for its advocacy efforts.

The new website aims to showcase the six key policy priorities the organization has in hopes of advancing the wants and needs of broadcasters.

Initiatives include:

  • Modernize Antiquated Broadcast Ownership Rules and Let Stations Compete
  • Keep AM Radio in Cars to Ensure Public Safety
  • Supporting NEXTGEN TV to Protect Our Critical Infrastructure
  • Prevent Harmful Changes to Existing Advertising Tax Deductibility
  • Stand Up for Local Radio: Oppose a New Performance Tax
  • Protect Broadcasters’ Investment in Local Content

By introducing the new website and policy agenda at the NAB Show in Las Vegas this week, NAB President and CEO Curtis LeGeyt hopes the outreach will reinforce the advocacy efforts aimed at lawmakers.

“Broadcasters play a vital role in their communities, from reporting on dangerous weather events to covering local sports and news, and it is truly an honor to advocate on behalf of local stations in Washington,” said LeGeyt. “In the 119th Congress we are fighting for policies that allow local stations to continue this vital work, from calling on the FCC to modernize ownership regulations to keeping AM radio in cars to keep Americans safe.”

The launch of the new website comes on the heels of a reinvigorated push by the NAB to urge the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to re-examine the broadcast ownership regulations. LeGeyt has continually called the current regulations “outdated” and has pushed for a “modernization” of the policies to allow broadcast companies to better compete with big tech and digital entities.
