Just months after finding a new home with FanDuel, Will Compton and Taylor Lewan’s Bussin’ With The Boys podcast has added former NFL linebacker Clay Matthews to their talent roster. In fact, making the announcement on their most recent podcast episode, Matthews will be joining “The Locker Room” featuring Compton, Lewan, and Delanie Walker this coming football season, as well as other Bussin’ content.

Additionally, Lewan discussed that the arrangement came about during a get-together at a charity event where the two talked about doing appearances on “The Locker Room” podcast last season. That conversation, ultimately, led to the addition for this coming football season.

“What’s great about the podcasting world and being a part of this is that it’s a comfortable environment,” said Matthews about being always able to separate his public and personal life. “There’s no producer in your ear talking about best dressed or other hot button topics. I had a great time doing ‘The Locker Room.’ You presented the offer to me, and I jumped on it. I’m excited and looking forward to it. I think it’ll be a good mix of the boys.”

Since his retirement in 2022 following two seasons spent outside of football, Matthews has not done anything regular in sports media. However, he made some cameo appearances in movies and select television shows, and was also a frequent guest of The Dan Patrick Show during his career.

Furthermore, Lewan noted the first time Matthews appeared on the podcast last season and observed his curiosity when it came to how “The Locker Room” worked. His level of preparation ultimately led to the decision to ask Matthews to be a full-time member for the football season.

Previously, Bussin’ With the Boys left Barstool Sports in mid-January after receiving an offer from FanDuel to sponsor the podcast. In a very public negotiation, both Lewan and Compton indicated that they would’ve taken a 10 or 20 percent “hometown discount,” but that the offer Barstool CEO Dave Portnoy could realistically make wasn’t even within 40 percent of FanDuel’s number.

In a January episode of the podcast, the Bussin’ crew expressed appreciation for their time with Barstool Sports. As Lewan said, “We feel very lucky, and I feel very humbled to be a part of an experience at a company like Barstool for as long as we have been.”
