MSNBC has announced that it is hiring CNN executive Marcus Mabry as its new Vice President of Content Strategy.

Mabry will be “responsible for how MSNBC connects and builds community with non-linear audiences,” MSNBC President Rebecca Kutler said in a memo to staffers announcing his hiring.

Kutler added that Mabry “will lead the development of new, innovative consumer experiences for MSNBC, including identifying new revenue streams for the network, and will oversee the network’s growing direct-to-consumer, subscription and premium businesses.”

He joins the network after spending the past eight years working at CNN, spending the final three years of his tenure as the Senior Vice President of Digital Editorial and Programming. Other previous stops include working at then-Twitter and The New York Times.

Marcus Mabry joins MSNBC as the network is preparing to separate from NBC News as the parent company of both — Comcast — is spinning off its cable entities.

His appointment follows the addition of Sudeep Reddy, who is joining the network to head its Washington D.C. news bureau after previously working as the Senior Managing Editor of Politico for the past eight years.
