MSNBC is getting set to split from NBCUniversal. That means beefing up its news division with people like David Noriega, Vaughn Hillyard, Laura Barron-Lopez, and Marc Santia.
The network is building on its White House team, and some of the names may be familiar to NBC News viewers.
Vaughn Hillyard has been hired as the network’s senior White House correspondent. He’ll be joined on the White House beat by Laura Barron-Lopez.
Hillyard joins MSNBC after previously serving in a similar role for NBC News. He has made frequent appearances on MSNBC programming during his tenure. Barron-Lopez, meanwhile, joins after working the White House for PBS NewsHour, and also serving as a political analyst for CNN.
Like Vaughn Hillyard, David Noriega joins MSNBC after previously working as a national correspondent for NBC News. He’ll be based in Los Angeles for the network.
Marc Santia joins the network after previously working as a reporter covering criminal justice, national security, and investigations for NBC 4 in New York. He’ll serve as an investigative correspondent for MSNBC.
The moves from MSNBC come as the channel is being spun off from the parent company into its own separate entity along with the other cable assets from Comcast into a new entity called Versant. When that officially takes place, MSNBC will no longer have access to the resources from NBC News.
