Ryan Fitzpatrick Bristles in Interview With Dan Le Batard Show Over “Gotcha” Question

0

The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz welcomed in Thursday Night Football analyst Ryan Fitzpatrick to discuss his career and the NFL and the interview ended with a thud.

Le Batard and his crew were peppering Fitzpatrick with questions about his time with various teams, his feelings about being benched in certain situations. All seemed to be going swimmingly until Stugotz asked a seemingly light-hearted question that did not go over well.

“There were several reports last year,” Stugotz began, “that you had hurt yourself last year before the season on a water slide… did your career end on a water slide?”

Fitzpatrick paused momentarily before answering.

“No, I got hurt in a game and I think everybody saw that,” Fitzpatrick deadpanned. He then seemed to get annoyed.

“I am now part of the media but I think we all, and you probably already knew the answer to that question. I know it’s funny and light but now you give a rumor some more breath but it’s silly and doesn’t make sense and no, that never happened.”

Le Batard followed-up with another attempt at being funny.

“How does Ryan Fitzpatrick attack a water slide? Is it feet first? Head first? On the belly? How’s this one working?”

After a few more moments of pause, Fitzpatrick responded.

“We can move on to something else.”

The show reacted wildly to Stugotz’s questioning crossing the line with Fitzpatrick when they had no intention of doing so. Fitzpatrick was then ready to end the interview.

“I’m glad we’re not on Zoom right now. I’m glad it’s just on air,” Fitzpatrick replied.
“Look, I mean it’s not the “line”. This is like a “gotcha” like we have some crazy rumor that never happened that we are going to give breath to. It just doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.”

Le Batard then apologized for “fouling up” what was “such a fun interview” and then allowed Fitzpatrick to be done with the interview.

The Musers: Monday Night Football Felt Different

0

Monday night was debut of Joe Buck and Troy Aikman as the broadcast booth for Monday Night Football. First thing on Tuesday morning, Sportsradio 96.7 & 1310 The Ticket’s The Musers took notice.

Show co-host Craig Miller set up the segment by talking about the changes Monday Night Football has gone thru for a long time before getting to this very important new pairing.

“Monday Night Football, for the last twenty-plus years, has just kind of been in the doldrums,” Miller said. “They’ve gone thru a lot of different announcers. They’ve gone thru a lot of different presentation modes. It was once THE brand in the NFL. Monday Night Football was must watch television.”

He then played the ESPN audio from the opening. Immediately, Miller noted, that the broadcast sounded different.

“It certainly was a different sound,” Miller mentioned. “It was a comfortable sound. It was great to hear Joe and Troy doing Monday Night Football.”

“I’m telling ya, if I’m just football fan as I was while I was getting dinner ready and saw that exact thing we just heard, it did. It felt so different,” show co-host George Dunham added. “It felt so big. This game means something.”

Dunham also noted that this could mean just as much for long-term viewership as it does to get people to check the game out casually.

“Yes, it was there first game together but I think it will have that feel every Monday night,” Dunham said. “It may not get you to tune in more than you did before, I think there will be a degree of that. But I think it can get you to stay with the game longer.”

Mike Gallagher: Wisdom In Andy Bloom’s Advice

0

Conservative radio host Mike Gallagher spent a portion of his Tuesday program discussing Barrett News Media columnist Andy Bloom and his most recent opinion that radio hosts need to stop talking about former President Donald Trump before the mid-term elections.

“I want you to consider the advice of Andy Bloom,” Gallagher said. “He gives some unsolicited advice, and I’m intrigued by his advice.”

Gallagher then read a large portion of Bloom’s story that argued conservative radio hosts need to pivot away from Donald Trump and towards the failings of President Joe Biden if they truly want to see Republicans take both houses of Congress in Novemeber.

“We’ve got hours a day. I can walk and chew gum at the same time,” Gallagher said Tuesday morning. “I’m not going to apologize for my support of a President with an America First agenda and the success of Donald Trump and his presidency. But does Andy Bloom have a point? Every minute we spend talking about President Trump — over the next 57 days — might just propel the voters into the arms of the democrats and it’s a mistake. I do think there is some wisdom his advice.”

Dan Le Batard Can’t Believe People Don’t Like RG3 On ESPN

0

Robert Griffin III is part of Monday Night Countdown on ESPN this year and he made a big impression on Dan Le Batard in week one. Le Batard hypothesized that the Heisman Trophy winner’s race with a hawk prior to the Monday night game between the Seahawks and the Denver Broncos may have been the most interesting part of ESPN’s broadcast.

“You got RG3 beating him at the wire,” Le Batard said on his Tuesday show. “That was great television!”

Video showed that Griffin did indeed beat the hawk, but the fact that the hawk pulled up to get a treat from its trainer definitely helped. Dan Le Batard said it was proof that being great on TV is about being unique and creating moments people remember.

“You can’t imagine many of the people that broadcast around that show giving you the visual image of running in dress clothes and sprinting and catching a bird,” he said.

Mike Ryan told Le Batard that plenty of people on social media are not fans of RG3 as a broadcaster.

“People are saying that RG3 is not good at it?” Le Batard asked. “I would have thought that his voice is so distinctive and his energy is so distinctive that nobody would have much of an issue with his enthusiasm with what it is that we were watching.”

Ryan noted this isn’t what he believes, but the common talking point online is that Robert Griffin III’s energy feels inauthentic. He noted that last week, Griffin shouted “It’s an orgy in the end zone!” on a Michigan touchdown and then asked what other broadcaster is delivering a moment like that.

Le Batard said that is why Griffin made such a big impression last night. He found a way to stand out by not adhering strictly to what is in his job description.

“Television is not about what you say. Can you do the flash paper things?”

Gregg Giannotti: Amazon, NFL Will Spin Thursday Night Football Numbers

0

Starting this week, Thursday Night Football will begin airing exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. The Los Angeles Chargers face the Kansas City Chiefs in the outlet’s first broadcast. During Boomer & Gio Tuesday, co-host Gregg Giannotti said the NFL and Prime Video will make sure the partnership is portrayed as a success.

“It’s going to be interesting to see how many people watch it,” Boomer Esiason said. “If you go back and look at ratings on the NFL Network ratings for Thursday Night Football weren’t great, because people didn’t have it. According to Mike North who’s the VP Broadcasting for the NFL, he was telling us how everybody has Amazon Prime. There’s 200 million members so everybody should be able to watch the game wherever they want to watch the game. And if you live in either LA or Kansas City, you’re gonna get that over the air anyway. It’ll be interesting to see what the ratings are and what they look like.”

“You know what they’re gonna do, though, if they don’t have big numbers,” Giannotti said. “They’re gonna spin it in some way. Like ‘Most watched game on streaming service of all time’.”

“Of course they will,” Esiason added. “Like Mike North said last week, they’re gonna be partners with Amazon for what? 10 or 11 years? Apple TV+ will be a partner starting next year.”

“They’re gonna be kissing each other’s ass back and forth,” Giannotti said.

Amazon Prime Video has spared no expense to create broadcasts similar to that of network television, pairing Al Michaels with Kirk Herbstreit in the broadcast booth, with a cavalcade of former star players and Charissa Thompson working as the studio crew.

Bill O’Reilly: Tim Russert In Heaven Questioning Chuck Todd

0

During his Monday evening podcast, Bill O’Reilly had harsh criticism for Meet The Press host Chuck Todd for his performance during a recent interview with Vice President Kamala Harris.

Todd sat down with the Vice President for a wide-ranging discussion, but O’Reilly couldn’t look past Todd’s inability to press Harris on what he called “lies” in regards to the security of the southern border.

“Chuck Todd sits there and allows a sitting Vice President to lie right to him,” O’Reilly said. “‘Oh, we have a secure border’. There isn’t one border patrol agent from Brownsville, Texas to San Diego, California who will tell you the border is secure. Not one. It’s not secure.”

The Meet The Press host has faced rumors over the past month that NBC is considering replacing him as host of the Sunday morning program.

O’Reilly called his perceived ability of Kamala Harris to lie to the press “shocking” before continuing his shots at Todd.

“Even more shocking is NBC News hiring a man to sit there on Meet The Press and she lies right to him, and he let’s it go. No follow up, no nothing. Tim Russert — a good friend of mine who used to do Meet The Press if you remember — I know Tim’s in heaven going ‘What the deuce? What the deuce?'”

O’Reilly concluded his statements by saying the press in America is intentionally deceiving and has “totally abdicated” its duty and responsibility to inform the public.

WIBC Host Rob Kendall Sues Indiana Mayoral Candidate

0

Rob Kendall, midday co-host of Kendall and Casey on 93.1 WIBC in Indianapolis, is suing Gabriel Whitley for defamation after he allegedly called the radio host a pedophile on social media.

Whitley, a conservative, is running for mayor of Evansville, Indiana.

The Evansville Courier & Press has obtained a screenshot from an August 31st social media post from the Kendall & Casey Facebook page that appears to show a comment from Young Conservatives of Southern Indiana saying “And Rob Kendall hates police too! Pedo Joe and Pedo Rob think alike”.

The lawsuit labels Whitley as the operator of the Young Conservatives of Southern Indiana, while also naming Spencer McDaniel. According to the Courier & Press, McDaniel posted on Facebook that he was informed of the lawsuit and Whitley had “no part in this” saying the comment was a joke and he takes “full responsibility for the joke”.

When presented with the defamation lawsuit, the Young Conservatives of Southern Indiana page reportedly responded by saying “We are a satire page. Bring it on bitch.” They later argued they are protected under the first amendment.

Kendall’s attorney, Abdul Hakim-Shabazz, said “The Defendants’ statements were defamatory per se because they imputed criminal conduct and misconduct on the part of the Plaintiff,” in the lawsuit.

Bloomberg TV/Radio Head Al Mayers Retiring

0

According to a report from Ben Mullin of The New York Times, Bloomberg Media has undergone a shuffling of executives, led by the retirement of broadcast media chief Al Mayers.

Mayers joined Bloomberg Radio in 2001 as station manager before ascending to his current role as head of the television and radio divisions for the company in 2015.

“Al has been a tireless leader at Bloomberg for over two decades, first in radio and now in his wider broadcast role,” Bloomberg Media CEO M. Scott Havens and Editor-In-Chief John Micklethwait said in a memo obtained by The Times. During COVID, it often seemed as if Al was single-handedly keeping us on the air. We are forever grateful for what he’s done for the company and wish him all the best in his next chapter on Cape Cod.”

Bloomberg Media produces content for more than 400 radio stations around the nation.

The retirement of Mayers serves as “a prompt for us to redesign the editorial side of Bloomberg Media—both in line with that philosophy and the broader changes in journalism and the media world,” according to the memo. “So, after Al leaves this month, David Merritt, who masterminded the cross-platform launch of Bloomberg UK, will become the Head of Bloomberg Media Editorial, a new position. Dave, who has already run our newsrooms in Europe and Asia, will oversee the editorial side of all of our media platforms… To work alongside Dave, we’re promoting Roman Mackiewicz to a similar cross-platform role: He is now the Chief Information Officer for Bloomberg Media and responsible for technology and operations.”
