AP Fires Reporter Over Previous Social Media Posts on Israeli/Palestinian Conflicts

The Associated Press has fired a reporter over pro-Palestinian tweets she posted
during her time in college, The Washington Post reports.

Emily Wilder now insists that she’s a victim of “cancel culture.” Wilder recently began
her position with the AP on May 3. However, 16 days later, she would learn that her
time at the news agency would end due to the “clear bias” she revealed in her social
media posts.

“This was a result of the campaign against me,” Wilder told the Washington Post. “To
me, AP folded to the ridiculous demands and cheap bullying of organizations and
individuals.”

“I was transparent from the very beginning, and I have been transparent. Yes, I had
opinions in college, and yes, I still have opinions because everybody has opinions. I
have never denied any of that.”

Wilder states that she believes the AP fired her due to the criticism it was receiving. The
reporter adds that the media outlet told her that her social media post were reviewed
after the unwanted publicity.

The former AP reporter also spoke to SFGate to add a further comment regarding her
dismissal.

“I love journalism, and part of what I think makes me such a capable, powerful journalist
is how much I care about the people I write about, particularly the marginalized,” Wilder
said.

“That’s why I joined the Associated Press, and they saw me as capable. This is, of
course, a really hard situation, and I’m not sure what’s going to happen next.”
