John Catsimatidis: 77 WABC Was Preparing to Give Lou Dobbs a Daily Show Before His Passing

"He loved working here. He loved everything that we were doing."

Longtime cable news host Lou Dobbs died last week at the age of 78 after a short and private bout with cancer. 77 WABC owner John Catsimatidis revealed the station had big plans for the host before he succumbed to the disease.

While appearing on Sid and Friends in the Morning Monday, Catsimatidis shared that the station had placed a full-page ad in the New York Post honoring Dobbs after his death.

Sid Rosenberg had noted that even as late as two weeks ago, he had seen Dobbs inside the offices of the New York news/talk station, before it was revealed that the longtime cable news host — who had hosted a weekend show and daily financial commentary for the station — had been diagnosed with cancer and ultimately passed.

“That was sad. That was a shocker,” Rosenberg said. “Shocker. I didn’t even know he was sick.”

77 WABC President Chad Lopez revealed he was told about Dobbs’ condition by his wife, adding that the former CNN and FOX Business Network host died at home in just his second day of hospice care.

“He loved working here. He loved everything that we were doing,” Lopez said, which led John Catsimatidis to reveal the station was planning an expanded relationship with Lou Dobbs.

“We were gonna give him a Monday through Friday show,” the billionaire admitted. “Don’t ask me what time,” he said to Rosenberg with a chuckle. “We’re all gonna miss him.”
