670 The Score is making big changes to their weekday lineup. During an announcement this morning on Mully and Hanley, PD Mitch Rosen visited the morning show to confirm the station’s plans.
Chicago sports radio veteran Dan McNeil returns to The Score to become part of the afternoon show. He’ll team up with Danny Parkins who previously co-hosted middays on the station. The two men have done a series of podcasts together and have known each other a long time. In fact, when Parkins broke into the business, he learned the business by interning for McNeil.
With Parkins ascending to afternoons, The Score will shake up middays by moving former afternoon drive host Dan Bernstein into the earlier timeslot. Bernstein will also receive a new partner, Connor McKnight. McKnight, won the station’s “Score Search” talent contest in 2009, and went on to become the White Sox pregame and postgame host on WLS-AM 890. The Sox though moved to WGN-AM 720 last month, opening the door for The Score to bring him home.
Due to the changes, Matt Spiegel and Jason Goff are unfortunately left out of the weekday picture. Spiegel will remain with the station in a lesser role, working weekends, filling in when weekday hosts are out, and writing columns for the website. Goff however has been let go.
Spiegel and Goff had solid history with The Score. Goff had produced and hosted shows on the station before teaming up with Bernstein in afternoons. Spiegel had been a fixture in middays, working most recently with Parkins and previously with McNeil and Patrick Mannelly. Spiegel and Goff also hosted middays together just 15 months ago.

Terrible decision. The score had a nice blend working with the previous line up. My afternoons wont be with the score. What a shame
Now that I have had a few days to let it sink in, I want to share the emotions I have regarding the recent changes.
First and foremost, as weird as it may sound, I feel as though I had some sort of relationship that just ended. I have spent literal hours equating to days, if not months listening to Matt Spiegel over the last eight years. No matter what changes took place throughout that time be it changes at the radio station, in my life through my own career and personal matters, he was one voice that I consistently heard which reminded me of many of my own friends. He had an uncanny ability to take so many new situations and quickly alleviate that natural resistance to change.
For Christ’s sake, he made Parkins palatable after my initial reaction to him was that of an A kidney transplanted into a B recipient.
I find it a bit ironic that Spiegel was the first to point out (to me, anyway) that Danny Mac was doing a podcast. I immediately subscribed, finding it to be a very good way to hear another familiar voice in an on demand fashion.
Little did I know that a few months from that point I’d be left feeling like I have lost a friend. While my conscience understands that there was no friendship, I believe my subconscious has no other way to process this change.
Anyway, I know life goes on and all but I don’t talk to anybody who consumes media in the same fashion as I do so I figured this would be one way to get it out.
Good Luck!
The worst lineup ever for radio, absolutely done with the station!
Bad change bringing Mc Neil back and losing Jason Goff
