The San Francisco Giants used to be a staple of radio in Reno, Nevada during the spring and summer. That won’t be the case this season. It brings an end to 35 consecutive years of radio coverage for the team in Northern Nevada.
The most recent affiliate, Power 92.5, informed the team that it would drop baseball this season to focus on its Classic Hip Hop format.
“We just don’t have a vehicle where the Giants would fit,” Americom Program Manager David Fritz told the Reno Gazette Journal. “We don’t have any spoken-word formats any longer. That’s why we had to say goodbye.”
Reno is home to the Arizona Diamondbacks’ triple-a affiliate, the Aces. Their broadcasts on Fox Sports 630 are now the only baseball available on radio in the market.
Giants in Reno fans will not be totally shut out. The TV broadcast will still be carried by Comcast Sports Bay Area and My21 in the market.
