Errol Spence Jr. defeated Mike Garcia on Saturday night in defense of his IBF welterweight title. No matter how many people purchased the pay-per-view, the audience numbers will still be disappointing.
Twitter was flooded with images and videos of people trying to purchase the fight only to receive a message from their TV provider saying that it was unable to complete the transaction.
Spectrum, Comcast, and Verizon systems were all called out on social media by their customers trying to order the fight. Verizon responded to one Tweet saying that demand had overwhelmed its system.
Andrew Bucholtz of Awful Announcing notes that many of the Tweets about being unable to purchase the pay-per-view seem to have been resolved. Still though, it is fair to wonder, when the final viewership numbers are released, how much higher they would have been without the technical issues.
