A Chicago broadcasting legend has died. Chet Coppock was killed in an auto accident outside of Charleston, South Carolina his daughter confirmed on Facebook. Coppock was 70-years-old.
To call Chet Coppock’s career “interesting” is an understatement. He was the sports anchor at WMAQ, Chicago’s NBC affiliate, in the 1980s. That was followed by a transition to sports talk radio where he became known as the “Godfather of Sports Talk Radio” in the Windy City.

Along the way, Coppock also spent time as an announcer for Roller Derby and the World Wrestling Federation. He also wrote five books.
