The XFL is on more stable footing right now than the AAF ever was. Games don’t kick off until 2020, but Vince McMahon revealed today that he has put together the kind of broadcast partnerships that his one time competitors could only covet.
Over the course of its ten week long inaugural season, the XFL will see games air on ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, Fox, and FS1. That is a far cry from the piecemeal TV schedule the AAF had to pay for.
The league made the announcement today in a press release. Executives at both companies expressed excitement over the partnership.
Fox’s Eric Shanks said “Football is in FOX Sports’ DNA and a key component of our programming strategy. Alongside Oliver Luck and his incredible team, we’re excited for the debut of the XFL on FOX Sports.”
“Vince McMahon and Oliver Luck are two of the sports industry’s most creative and experienced leaders, and they have exciting plans for this league,” said ESPN’s Burke Mangus. “We believe in their vision for the XFL, which will be a great addition to our year-round commitment to football.”
