Tim Layden announced via Twitter that Monday was his last day at Sports Illustrated. The writer had been part of the magazine’s staff for the last 25 years.
Sports Illustrated was recently sold to Authentic Brands, who then turned around and licensed the company’s media operations to The Maven. Despite that kind of chaos, which would make wanting to leave understandable, Layden stressed that his decision was made before either sale was completed.
Layden is 62-years-old and noted in his farewell post that he still has “gas in the tank.” He described his leaving as “retiring from SI,” but not retiring in totality. Layden also noted that he does have news on his future, but will share that at a later time.
