Jerry O’Neil Retires From UCF Sideline Role

Jerry O’Neil’s is a very familiar voice to fans of the University of Central Florida. He has been the pre-game host and sideline reporter for Knights football broadcasts for the last 24 seasons. Earlier this week, he announced that there would not be a 25th.

“To the UCF family … and to the hundreds and hundreds of players, my sincere thanks for the love and friendship and a common bond,” O’Neill said in an appearance with Marc Daniels on 96.9 The Game in Orlando. “But like a baton in a relay race, it is time to pass the mic … nobody will love it more!”.

Scott Adams, who has been a part of the Knights’ broadcast team for the last 18 years, will fill the role left vacant with O’Neil’s retirement. Former UCF lineman Leger Douzable will also join the broadcast this season.

“Leger will be a part of our pre-game shows working on several segments for home games and involved with a few segments for road games,” Daniels, the play-by-play voice of UCF, told Matt Murchel of The Orlando Sentinal. “For all home games and the FAU game, he will be on the sidelines with Scott offering his perspective and game analysis. As a former Knight, I am really excited to bring Leger aboard.”

O’Neil has spent much of 2019 putting a bow on his broadcasting career. In February he announced he was retiring from the day-to-day grind of his radio show The Finish Line on 96.9, which is also the Knights’ flagship.
