Sports radio listeners in Gainesville, Florida will soon hear a very familiar voice on Tuesdays. WRUF, the local ESPN Radio affiliate owned by the University of Florida, is launching a new weekly show and podcast featuring one of the biggest names in Gator football history, Steve Spurrier.
Inside the Huddle with Shane, Steve, and the HBC will debut next week. Spurrier, better known to SEC football fans as “The Head Ball Coach,” will be joined by his former quarterback, Shane Matthews, and longtime WRUF host Steve Russell.
Spurrier is one of the most accomplished men in the history of the Florida football program. He played quarterback for the team from 1963-1966, winning the Heisman Trophy in his senior year. He then went on to be the third overall pick of the 1967 NFL Draft. As a coach, Spurrier lead the Gators from 1990-2001. He won six SEC titles and the 1996 national championship. He is the all-time winningest coach at both the University of Florida & the University of South Carolina.
