Four years after leaving the World Wide Leader, Bill Simmons is coming back! The return will be a short one as he fills in for Michael Wilbon on Monday’s episode of PTI.
Simmons made the announcement today on Twitter, where he posted a photo of himself with Tony Kornheiser.
This won’t be the first time Simmons has contributed to ESPN since leaving. He has been a guest a handful of times on The Dan Le Batard Show With Stugotz. Those appearances were all over the phone though. He did make an appearance in the multi-part documentary event Basketball: A Love Story. Monday will mark the first time he has been in an ESPN studio since leaving.
ESPN and Bill Simmons have a long and complicated relationship. In 2014 Andrew Bucholtz of Awful Announcing attempted to document all of the ups and downs.
Monday’s PTI will be the latest bit of nostalgia for ESPN fans. It started on Sunday the 8th when Dan Patrick hosted a Sunday night edition of SportsCenter. On Friday, the network announced that Chris Berman and Tom Jackson would be getting back together and bringing NFL Primetime back on ESPN+.
