Robert Feder of the Chicago Sun Times reports that Neil Funk’s 28th season with the Chicago Bulls will be his last. Funk will call every preseason and home game this year, but reduce his road schedule before calling it a career at the end of the season.
Funk has been the team’s TV play-by-play man since 1991. He called five of the Bulls’ six championships in the 1990s.
“I want to give a special thanks to Jerry and Michael Reinsdorf for allowing me and my family to be a part of the best franchise in sports,” Funk said in a press release. “I also want to thank Bulls fans around the world for being so gracious and supportive. Thanks for the great ride.”
Bulls chairman Jerry Reinsdorff responded,” We thank Neil for his contributions that have consistently made our broadcasts among the best in the league, and wish him and his family the very best.”
The Bulls are not the only team on Neil Funk’s resume. He also called games for the Philadelphia 76ers and the then Kansas City Kings in his 42 year play-by-play career.
