Seth Dunlap has been fired by Entercom’s WWL amid accusations of sending a homophobic tweet aimed at himself, from the station’s Twitter account.
According to Dunlap’s lawyer, the station recently asked the radio host to resign, but he maintained innocence and refused. Dunlap was instead terminated from his position with the company on October 31st.
Nearly two months ago, Dunlap wrote an open letter to Drew Brees criticizing the Saints’ quarterback’s support of the anti-LGBTQ organization, Focus on the Family. In the letter, Dunlap acknowledged being openly gay. Two weeks later, WWL’s official Twitter account responded to one of Dunlap’s tweets with a homophobic slur.
Soon after the tweet, Dunlap took a leave of absence from WWL, where he worked as host of The Last Lap, in addition to the Saints pregame show on their radio network.
WWL and Entercom conducted an internal investigation which concluded Dunlap sent the tweet from his personal cell phone. The now former Entercom employee also reportedly demanded $1.8 million from the station. According to Dunlap’s lawyer, the radio host took and passed a polygraph test, stating he was a victim of the homophobic tweet. Nearly a month ago, police obtained a search warrant for Dunlap’s phone.
