The Cleveland Browns waived safety Jermaine Whitehead Monday, following an expletive-laced Twitter rant which directed threats at sports radio host Dustin Fox.
Fox, a former NFL player and current co-host of 92.3 The Fan’s afternoon show, Bull and Fox sent a tweet criticizing Whitehead for missing crucial tackles during the Browns 24-19 loss in Denver.
In addition to his afternoon show on 92.3 The Fan, Fox also works as the pre and postgame host on the Cleveland Browns Radio Network. Shortly after Fox’s tweet, Whitehead responded with vulgarity and threats, leading the Browns to release a statement reprimanding the safety. Whitehead also threatened to fight fans who called him out on Twitter.
TMZ shared screenshots of Whitehead’s tweets.
“Jermaine Whitehead’s social media posts following today’s game were totally unacceptable and highly inappropriate,” the Browns said in response to the safety’s social media tirade. “We immediately spoke with Jermaine upon learning of these comments. The Browns in no way condone that type of language or behavior. This matter will be further addressed internally.”
Hours later, the Browns took the next step and released Whitehead. Whitehead also had his account, @j2whitehead_suspended by Twitter for violating its rules. Fox was not on-air for his usual 92.3 The Fan afternoon show Monday.
