Seth Dunlap has not spoken much since being fired by Entercom New Orleans in November. Several statements were issued on behalf of the former WWL night host on behalf of an attorney he has since fired, but Tuesday morning was the first time Dunlap had made a public statement of his own.
On his Facebook page Dunlap declared that he is innocent of the extortion plot that Entercom and the NOPD have alleged. He also reiterated that he endured a hostile work environment because he is gay and hopes that he can inspire others and facilitate them speaking out about the conditions they endure at work on a daily basis.
In September, Dunlap wrote a blog encouraging New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees to reconsider his support for anti-LGBTQ organization, Focus on the Family. Dunlap also used the open letter to publicly acknowledge that he is gay. Two weeks later the official WWL Twitter account responded to a tweet from Dunlap with a homophobic slur.
An investigation by Entercom and the NOPD determined that Dunlap sent the offensive tweet himself in an attempt to extort money from the company. An Entercom spokesperson says that Dunlap demanded $1.8 million from the company.
Dunlap and his former attorney Megan Kiefer maintained Dunlap’s innocence offering the results of a polygraph test as proof. Dunlap fired Kiefer and hired Louisiana white-collar defense specialist Billy Gibbens in November.
