Mark Sturgis Out At ESPN Upstate

Mark Sturgis has largely been off the air since July when he suffered a stroke. The afternoon host at ESPN Upstate in Greenville, SC had been with the station since 2014. He broke the news in a tweet on Thursday morning.

According to Sturgis’ wife Teresa, the stroke was caused by a thin blood vessel in his brain. An MRI showed he had multiple mini strokes that went previously undiagnosed.

In December Sturgis acknowledged that he wouldn’t be able to return to work full-time. At that time he was still planning to remain a part-time employee of Entercom, contributing to multiple shows on ESPN Upstate.

The station recently posted an ad looking for a new mid day host. Will Palaszczuck was filling in regularly after Sturgis’s stroke. Eventually the station moved mid day host and APD Marc Ryan into afternoon drive. The mid day show remains open and has been filled by a number of different hosts since Palaszczuck left the station.
