Ruben Amaro Jr. is heading back to Philadelphia. The former Phillies front office executive will reportedly join NBC Sports Philadelphia and 94 WIP as an analyst according to Bob Brookover of The Inquirer.
Amaro, played five seasons for the Phillies in the ‘90s, later spending seven years with the club as general manager from 2009 to 2015. He also worked as an assistant GM with general managers Ed Wade and Pat Gillick for 10 seasons, helping the Phillies to a World Series championship in 2008.
NBC Sports Philadelphia has not yet announced a partnership with Amaro, but he’s expected to take on a role as a studio analyst, which could see him contribute to their pre and postgame coverage.
WIP also has not announced anything with Amaro, but the former Phillies general manager did join Angelo Cataldi’s morning show last week for an interview segment. Cataldi has previously welcomed former Eagles defensive lineman Hollis “Tank” Thomas, 76ers GM Billy King, former Flyers right-winger and current NBC Sports analyst Keith Jones, along with others as weekly guests. The regular segments have been for once or twice a week, for up to an hour during each show.
After being fired from the Phillies, Amaro joined the Red Sox as first base coach, later filling the same role with the New York Mets before moving into their front office last season. Amaro worked as a special adviser for Mets general manager Brodie Van Wagenen, but left on his own terms to seek new opportunities this year.
