In the last couple of weeks, two prominent writers for The Big Lead announced their departure. Now it appears those departing writers, Ryan Glasspiegel and Bobby Burack are heading to the same destination, Clay Travis’ Outkick the Coverage.
The news was first reported by Mark Burns and John Ourand of the Sports Business Journal, it was also recently confirmed to BSM that both Glasspiegel and Burack are teaming up with Outkick. Exact roles haven’t been announced, but expect reporting on sports media to still be a focus. When Burack tweeted he was leaving TBL, he stated he will “continue to cover sports media, bringing you news, opinions, instant reactions, ratings and lists.”
Burack joined TBL in 2018, while Glasspiegel has been with the site since 2013. Both survived last year’s restructuring after TBL was acquired by Minute Media, which also owns 12Up.com. When Minute Media purchased TBL from Gannett in March 2019, they cut the writing staff in half, which included getting rid of the site’s founder Jason McIntyre.
McIntyre had already transitioned to a TV and radio career with FOX Sports which also happens to be the television and radio home for Clay Travis. Outkick, however, is fully owned by Travis, not FOX Sports. The initial report by SBJ stated additional hires are expected for Outkick as the site continues to expand, but for now, we’re only aware of Glasspiegel and Burack.
