Are More Supersized 30 For 30s On The Way For ESPN?

The first two episodes of ESPN’s 10-part documentary The Last Dance dominated social media conversation Sunday night. With live sports on hold for the foreseeable future, that kind of hit certainly doesn’t go unnoticed at the World Wide Leader.

On Monday, Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports tweeted a list of future 30 for 30 subjects on the horizon.

The subjects of upcoming documentaries are not new news. When ESPN revealed the slate of upcoming 30 for 30 documentaries for all of 2020, images of Lee, Armstrong, Sosa, and McGwire all appeared. The mystery revolves around the programming strategy for these films.

So far, ESPN has aired two 30 for 30 documentaries in 2020. The Last Dance began on Sunday night. Before that, Vick was stretched over the span of two weeks. Multi-week events could be the name of the game for the series in 2020.

Prior to the premier of The Last Dance, the 30 for 30 brand’s only foray into 10+ hour long stories was OJ Simpson: Made in America, which was recognized with an Oscar as the Best Documentary of 2016.
