The Last Dance is an unprecedented hit for ESPN Films. Episodes one and two debuted on Sunday night and instantly became the most watched documentaries in ESPN history. It makes sense then that every sector of the company is looking to capitalize on that popularity.
ESPN Radio announced on Wednesday that Sunday evenings are going to be heavy on content related to The Last Dance. Starting at 5 pm, the network will re-air a game from the 1997 and 1998 NBA Finals. Mark Kestecher will serve as the host and be joined by former players, coaches, and NBA analysts to discuss the game.
The series begins on April 26 with a replay of “the flu game,” when Michael Jordan battled through illness and scored 38 points to secure a Game 5 victory over the Utah Jazz in the 1997 Finals.
Other games in the series will include 1997’s Game 6, where Jordan and the Bulls clinched championship #5, on May 3. Game 4 of the 1998 NBA Finals will air on May 10. The series culminates with Michael Jordan’s game winning shot in the 1998 Finals Game 6. That wrapped up a sixth title for Jordan and proved to be his last in a Bulls’ uniform.
After the Finals game replays, ESPN Radio will present it’s exclusive preview show. Countdown to the Dance starts every Sunday at 8pm and ends just as the two latest episodes of The Last Dance premier on ESPN.
