Grant Napear Out At KHTK And As Kings TV Voice

Grant Napear has lost not one, but two jobs after a Twitter exchange with DeMarcus Cousins. Cousins initially Tweeted at Napear to get his thoughts on the Black Lives Matter movement. When Napear didn’t respond, Cousins turned to Napear’s co-host Doug Christie.

There is some bad blood left between Cousins and Napear from Cousins’s playing days in Sacramento. That was evident in the way Napear responded.

To quote an article written on Tuesday by BSM’s Brandon Contes, “The ‘all lives matter’ reaction to BLM generally represents a misunderstanding of and contempt for the movement.”

Napear was put on administrative leave by KHTK and the Kings. Former Kings Matt Barnes and Chris Webber took to Twitter to condemn Napear. Shortly thereafter, the team announced that Napear was no longer part of the organization.

KHTK program director Jason Ross, who earlier in the day read a statement on air saying that Napear was on administrative leave from Bonneville, returned in the afternoon to say that he had been let go by the station. KTHK’s parent company Bonneville International put out a statement saying that the timing of Napear’s words were particularly insensitive.

“In the wake of George Floyd’s tragic death and the events of the last several days, it is crucial that we communicate the the tremendous respect that we have for the black community and other groups or individuals who have cause to feel marginalized.”

  1. This is total BS Grant meant no disrespect he is a professional you are way to much PC, yes it’s sad and shameful that Mr. Floyd was killed,, but he is right all lives matter it should not come down to race, why separate it that’s what racism’s about.

  2. Jeff Ercolini you’re either the dumbest man alive or the most naive…..SMH….White America is not getting killed by policemen weekly for no petty crimes or no crime at all. If we commit a crime or a traffic infraction should we be allowed to also stand trial or recieve a summons as our white counterpart? Whites can kill 12 people and on the way to jail they stop at a Burger King and get the killer something to eat because he is hungry? We get killed for driving while black….(DWB) ? I admit that I don’t think he should have been fired…..unless there were other incidents that we dont know about.

    • Just curious Corey. If you want to trot that response out….what percentage of the population is White and what percentage is Black? I think I last saw 63% White and 13% Black. Were police killings matching the same percentages as Whites, Blacks, and lets also add Hispanics in the country? In the words of former Senator Bob Dole….”You know, I know, and the American people know the answer to that….

  3. I am a retired HR manager and I didnt know “all lives matter” was an anti “Black Lives Matter” statement either until I read the Sac Bee article. I strongly support “Black Lives Matter” , I think it was a knee jerk reaction for him to lose his job for this.

  4. Over 30 years of dedicated professionalism and cooperation with the Sacramento community and the NBA and the Kings thrown out because of one word in a tweet? I believe Grant when he says he was naive to the fact that the reply “all” lives matter is offensive to the BLM movement. In any event, he immediately apologized. Unless there is some kind of history of racism on his part ( and that would be hard to believe), it’s inconceivable that he would be fired over this. Ridiculous.

  6. I’m totally fed up with the politically correct BS. Firing Grant Napear is stupid. Especially when it was based on the feelings of Matt Barnes and Chris Webber (two men of stately character).
And who made the determination that the term “all lives matter ” was pejorative. I’m about an inch away from dumpling my Kings tickets because of this tripe.

  7. I want to thank Grant for all he has done for Sacramento for over 30 years. I will never listen to that station or watch that team play again. I can stream Rome elsewhere. To think 30 years of dedication and loyalty can be thrown out the window because he mentioned ” all lives matter “. It was an obvious setup from someone who obviously had it in for him and is enjoying it all no doubt. Wow, I was in shock when I first heard this story and am still in shock. I am surprised all those he took under his wing at that station could continue to work there blows me away as well to a lesser degree. When someone is down a friend stands by their side and helps pick them up. I am pretty sure some of them did offer help behind the scenes and Grant probably ” said I am good ” but the optics on this from the outside do not look good. It may come out in the future on that station but I will never hear it. “All lives matter” I now know is a racist comment that get you fired. I will teach my children that all lives do not matter and never say that !

  8. When you reply to someone asking you how you feel about Black Lives Matter and you respond that all lives matter, it is the same as someone asking you how you fell about breast cancer awareness and you reply all cancer awareness matters. You are right, they do all matter, but that wasn’t the point. The problem is that information is distorted by its conveyors through the media and people are not fully educated on all the important issues. Networks lead viewers to the opinions the want to convey and often leave out information that would that would lead viewers in a different direction. So even though all of this is happening in our society today and he was still uniformed about the message of Black Lives Matter. This is the result because either the place where he gets his news hasn’t provided him the important information that was needed for a topic frequently in the news, or he didn’t care enough to look into the topic which is rattling society to it core at this moment. I hope it is the former rather than the latter because I have always enjoyed his calls of the kings games and would like to remember him in a better light. We should be informed with the full truth and need to support the freedoms of our fellow citizens when they’re oppressed by power.

  9. So, all lives don’t matter? And I thought this protest was about ending racist police brutality. When did it change to be a general protest against all white people?
