No one is satisfied with the social and civil unrest in the United States right now, so if you have a voice, a platform and a way to help human beings, use it. But Philly’s SportsRadio 94WIP icon Angelo Cataldi took to Twitter Wednesday morning, seemingly suggesting some should stick to sports, or at least get back to sports.
Naturally, the take was contested by many, including Cataldi’s colleague, WIP afternoon host and former Philadelphia Eagle Ike Reese.
While suggesting sports figures “focus on what they do best,” rather than addressing social concerns might be a poorly timed tweet, Cataldi is not wrong in the idea of games having the ability to help calm parts of the country. Sports have often been a unifying force, with the ’68 Tigers providing a good example, helping to heal Detroit from damaging riots as depicted in the documentary City on Fire.
