The NFL is in the midst of negotiating several TV contracts. Most of what is making the news has to do with the league’s relationships with individual networks, but on Friday morning, the league’s relationship with multiple platforms was in the spotlight.
Subscribers to Dish Network and Sling TV are without NFL Network and the Red Zone channel. With months to go before a new season, there is plenty of time for the sides to work out a deal, but it is certainly not something football fans that rely on those two services to watch television are happy about.
NFL PR sent out a statement last night saying the offer the league has made to Dish Network is on par with offers made to other providers, but the sat-caster is not satisfied.
Pulling a channel is a negotiating tactic many platforms use when negotiating carriage fees. Even if the NFL Network and Red Zone return before the 2020 season kicks off, there are 11 million subscribers to the two services that have to make due without for right now.
