After The Washington Post reported allegations of sexual harassment from former Washington Redskins employees, Darren Rovell responded with a poorly timed tweet. As Redskins owner Daniel Snyder was not named in the allegations, Rovell alluded to fans being disappointed in the scandal’s severity.
While Rovell noted the story was “horrific,” his immediate “cancel culture” response was criticized by many on social media, including Bomani Jones.
We don’t know what will happen to Daniel Snyder and his football team, but 15 women alleging sexual harassment doesn’t seem like a case of “cancel culture.” If Snyder does ultimately sell the team, it’s not because he’s being “cancelled,” it’s because he was in charge of an organization that allowed a widespread culture of unlawful sexual harassment.
