After it was first reported by Outkick last week, Renee Young made it official during the SummerSlam Kickoff, announcing she was departing WWE as a broadcaster following eight years with the company.
Having joined WWE in 2012, Young worked her way up to becoming one of their most prominent broadcasters and more recently worked as a special contributor to SmackDown with its move to FOX.
Among her credentials and accolades, Young touted her contributions as a trailblazer in the industry, becoming the first woman to be featured on a WWE broadcast in Saudi Arabia, and the first female to be included full-time on Monday Night Raw.
“It was time,” Young penned in a thank you letter published to The Players Tribune. “Eight years doing anything is a while. But eight years in a business like ours???? It’s a lifetime. And you only get so many lifetimes, right? So I’m going to try a few new things, give them a fair shot, hope they give me the same, and we’ll see.”
Recently, Young’s appearances for WWE were sparse, having tested positive for COVID-19 in June, and her weekly show on FS1, Backstage cancelled around the same time. While Young didn’t announce what’s next for her, she did write a cookbook featuring more than 70 different recipes which will be available for purchase soon.
