The assumption since his release from prison has been that Craig Carton was headed back to WFAN. That may not be the forgone conclusion we once assumed. One station in the City of Brotherly Love might also have plans for the former WFAN morning man.
Andrew Marchand of The New York Post reports that while WFAN remains the favorite, 97.5 the Fanatic has serious interest in bringing Carton in to lead a new morning show. The report did not offer any further details regarding The Fanatic’s pursuit of Carton.
Carton was recently released from prison after serving a year for his role in a ticket scam that defrauded investors out of nearly $7 million. In a recent filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection, Carton noted that he is pursuing a new position in sports talk radio.
Marchand’s report notes that WFAN has been slow in its pursuit, but would likely move Carton and an ex-athlete into afternoon drive in anticipation of Joe Benigno either fully or partially retiring. That would allow Evan Roberts to go back to mid days and join Maggie Gray.
