Vin Scully has been out of the Dodgers’ play-by-play booth for a couple of years now. He is still considered the gold standard for broadcasting. It makes sense that fans would still want his opinions and stories.
Starting this week, Scully is going to make those much easier to find. At 92 years old, he is planting his flag firmly in the digital world.
This Wednesday, the push begins with the three major social media platforms. Scully will be @TheVinScully on Twitter and Instagram. He will also have a Facebook account. Next week, he will launch an official YouTube channel as well.
“I was a fan before I was a broadcaster, and I want to see and hear and engage with people,” Scully told USA Today.
In addition to the social presence, the first official Vin Scully website will launch in October.
Chicago White Sox executive Dennis Gilbert helped Scully and his team set the project up. He says the website and social presence will be a “virtual Vin Scully museum.” Scully says he is eager to share classic calls and current thoughts with his fans.
“I’ll be very, very careful what goes out,” Scully says of his Twitter account. “It’s too volatile of a world. I don’t want anyone mistaking what I originally meant. I won’t get into any arguments, but if I feel necessary to chime in, I’ll do it.”
