Pandemic or not, ESPN’s College GameDay is hitting the road this season. The show is set to announce it’s first destination this Saturday.
The crew will be stationary this weekend. A 2020 preview show is scheduled for Saturday morning at 11. Rece Davis will be in Bristol. Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard and David Pollack will all broadcast from their homes. An ESPN press release says Maria Taylor would participate as well, but did not provide details.
During the preview show, ESPN will announce the first stop on College GameDay’s 2020 tour. That show will happen the following Saturday, September 12. Two of the three power conferences playing this fall are set to start that week, but there is no obvious candidate to host the show.
College GameDay began broadcasting from college campuses in 1993. Since then, Lee Corso’s headgear picks and the celebrity guest picker have become part of most fans’ Saturday traditions. So has picking out favorite signs in the GameDay crowd.
ESPN didn’t give any hint as to what will become of those traditions this year. No crowd restrictions or changes to regular travel protocol was mentioned in the press release. There is also no word on how often the show will travel this season.
