The head of Fox Corporation says ratings on Fox News won’t suffer regardless of who is elected President in November.
Lachlan Murdoch, Fox Corporation Executive Chairman and CEO, spoke at the BofA Securities Virtual 2020 Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference on Thursday and said “We’ve grown ratings in multiple administrations from both political parties. So, [under Presidents] Clinton, Bush, Obama, we’ve continually grown ratings.”
Murdoch pointed out that advertisers who have never spent money on news are now doing that. “I think advertising demand has been very strong.”
Fox News had a record-breaking summer in terms of its prime time lineup beating CNN, MSNBC, CBS, NBC, and ABC, according to Nielsen Media Research. The network has averaged 3.5 million viewers since Memorial Day.
“As our ratings increase, our demographics, we have larger cohorts of different demographics,” Murdoch added. “News always skews older, which is not something I’m particularly worried about, it’s logical.”
Nielsen said Fox experienced tremendous growth in the highly-coveted 25-54 year-old demographic during the month of August, averaging 638,000 viewers in prime time. A 70 percent increase from last year.
By comparison, CNN was second in the category, averaging 454,000 in marking a 16 percent increase.
MSNBC averaged 357,000 viewers, a 61 percent increase when compared to August 2019.
